Auburn Cruise-In 2010
19th Annual Auburn Cruise-In
49-54 Chevy / Gearhead Geek attended this event on July 3rd, 2010, at the Auburn City Park in Auburn, Kentucky.
This was the 19th Annual Auburn Cruise-In. This was our first time at this event. The entrance to the park is directly off of Main Street (68/80). The park is a medium size place with a skate board area, softball field and a central pavilion. There are other areas that appear to be under construction. This would indicate that more features are in the works.
The cars were parked on the grass, under many large shade trees, surrounding the central pavilion. There is a semi-curricular shaped creek that runs around three fourths of the grass area. There are bridges to cross over the creek. Picnic tables and grills are located close to the creek. There was plenty of shade and a gentle breeze blowing all day which sheltered everyone from the sun and temperature. It was a very nice place for the show.
The event was free to enter with donations accepted for a Military Veterans Charity. The theme of the event was honoring the veterans that helped to keep America free and independent. They put on a good event, especially considering that it was free. The sponsors and organizers did a great job. All Show Entrants got a great lunch which included bean, bacon and ham soup, cornbread, hotdogs, tomatoes, onions, chips, brownies and soda drinks. There was an Elvis Presley singer for music. He sounded very close to what I remember Elvis sounded like and also was a good announcer for the event.
They give out a good number of door prizes. Awards were given out to the oldest person in attendance from every American War since WWI. Other awards include "Longest Distance Traveled", "Women's Choice", "Mayors's Choice" and "Best Paint".
A couple of patriot speeches were given that reminded everyone of some of the people and events in the past that shaped our country. Also speaking was a proud Kentucky man that told some of his life story and read some of his poems.
There were some seldom seen types cars in attendance and friendly owners willing to talk about them. We enjoyed this event and plan to come back next year.
See some of the vehicles that caught our eye below.
